Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum’s latest romantic film, The Vow, came out on Valentine’s Day weekend, an appropriate kickoff date for this year’s first tear-jerker. This PG-13 film centers on Leo (Tatum) and Paige (McAdams), a happily married couple that comes face to face with a heart-shattering tragedy.
After a terrible car crash, Paige suffers from brain trauma and loses her memory of the past five years. Of course, in the past five years, she had left home, pursued her dreams as an artist, and fallen madly in love with Leo.
In just under an hour and a half, the audience falls in love with these two characters and their tumultuous love story because of their endearing and relatable characteristics. Although the movie was emotional and lovable, somehow it could never be a romantic classic. Because the movie lacked a conflict between the country girl and city boy, the viewer did not witness enough of the characters’ undying love. Moreover, because of Paige’s accident, she appeared very confused and not very “in love” with her husband, Leo, for most of the movie.
However, if you are a romantic looking for a good cry, The Vow—a love story based on true events—is the movie for you!
