This summer, the Great Neck Park District is inviting residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the activities our town has to offer. Whether you want to cool off from the summer heat or catch a serene sunset while jamming out to your favorite artist, there’s something for everyone this summer—all within the city lines.
1. Stepping Stone Park: The Summer Series
While it’s no secret that Great Neck’s Steppingstone Park is a summer hotspot, Stepping Stone Free Summer Concert Series remains one of the park’s hidden gems. For the past three years, the park has welcomed major musical artists, including Ne-Yo, Gavin DeGraw, Flo Rida, and Omer Adam, to Great Neck’s pier. Attracting thousands of residents to each show, admission is free with the presentation of a Great Neck Parks card. Guests are treated to complementary Ralph’s ices, popcorn and candy—plusthe occasional visits from Mexican and Korean fusion food trucks.
2. Lake Success Pool Park: Movie Nights
Lake Success’s police station park has long served as a recreational hub for residents. With beautiful tennis courts, baseball fields, and even an Olympic-sized pool, the resort-like setting is well known to South students. However, many are unaware of the free movie nights hosted at the pool during the summer. With a projector screen displaying popular films, the events include food trucks and complimentary Ralph’s ices and popcorn, creating a festive atmosphere for all Great Neck residents.
3. Parkwood Pool: Lazy River and Waterslides
Parkwood Pool is not only one of the largest student employers in Great Neck, but is also home to the town’s only public water slides and lazy river. Recently renovated, the lazy river has become a major draw. Access is free to all Great Neck residents and available to non-residents for a $10 day fee. With an Olympic-size pool, hot tub, kiddie pool, and snack bar, Parkwood Pool offers something for everyone.
4. Firefighters Park (Grace Avenue Park): Tuesday Night Concerts
Since summer 2021, the Village of Great Neck Plaza has been inviting residents and visitors to get their groove on every Tuesday evening. This year’s lineup features returning favorites, including The Captain Jack Tribute Band—Long Island’s very own Billy Joel cover band—which drew the largest crowd the series has ever seen. While these concerts are BYOBC (Bring Your Own Beach Chair), unlike the standing-room-only shows at Steppingstones, Firefighters Park offers the perfect settingd for that Pinterest-worthy picnic date you’ve had saved on your mood board all winter. While most attendees pack their own picnic dinners, others enjoy the numerous restaurants located down the street.
