Capturing the aura of the 1950s while satisfying the appetites of modern day consumers, Cheeburger Cheeburger recently made its debut in Great Neck. While looking at neon signs, sitting in old fashioned seats, and listening to music from the fifties, customers can enjoy the retro chain-restaurant’s specialties: customizable cheeseburgers and milk shakes.
The menu breaks burger-building to a simple step by step process. First, select a burger (choices are mostly in quarter-pound increments). Next, pick from an array of eight cheeses. And finally, the fun part: “order as many toppings as you’d like.” The list of over 30 toppings includes peanut butter, guacamole, pepperoni, onion rings, salsa, and more.
In a similar manner, customers can also “invent” their own delicious milkshakes. The dozens of available flavors range from brownie batter to blueberry cheesecake to chocolate covered banana. The menu proudly proclaims: “Combine any of these shake flavors to create your own shake sensation. There are more than 1,285,000 combinations! Which one is yours?”
The restaurant is also famous for its “pounder” burger. Customers who order and successfully finish the one pound burger receive free commemorative t-shirts and have pictures posted on the restaurant’s “Wall of Fame.”
Prices are very affordable: the “pounder” only costs $12 and all other burgers are under $10. Moreover, the restaurant is conveniently situated in the shopping center on Great Neck Road, making parking relatively easy to find. Nonetheless, since seating is limited to 70 customers, latecomers often must wait for an open table.
Ultimately, Cheeburger Cheeburger strongly appeals to foodies of all varieties. Whether you’re bold and want to try the one pound challenge, you’re adventurous and want to have peanut butter smeared on your burger, or you’re just plain hungry, you’re bound to “invent” a satisfying meal and to leave with a full stomach.
