The winter track and field team, having worked hard all season, was extremely competitive at the Conference Championship meet. Shotputters and seniors Danny Mathew and Stephen K. earned All-Conference honors. Both threw for personal bests: Mathew threw for over 42 feet and Stephen K. threw for over 40 feet. It was the first time in four years that the team had two members throw for over 40 feet.
In the 600 meters, senior Aron B. won first place, earning himself All-Conference honors. Junior Sam S. and senior John C. also ran solid times and scored points for the team. Likewise, in the 1000 meters, senior Ari Shabi scored in a very competitive race.
The 4×400 meter relay team, consisting of Aron B., Sam S, John C., and senior Isaac S., won first place and achieved all-conference honors.
Overall, South came in fifth place, beating some notable teams: Herricks and Port Washington. Even though the championship meet is over, the team will continue to run, including two more upcoming meets at the world-renowned Armory Track in New York City.
Taking many positives from this meet, the team hopes to continue to improve and carry this momentum into the spring season.
