Between answering her emails, posting on her blog, going to showroom appointments, and attending events each night, South alumnae Danielle Bernstein, commonly known for her Instagram and blog “WeWoreWhat,” was included in Forbes 30 Under 30: Art and Style. Out of over 6,000 applicants, Bernstein was chosen as one of the top 30 upcoming entrepreneurs and innovators looking to change the world.
For those who are not familiar with Bernstein’s work, she is well known for her instagram, blog, and YouTube account, where she gives major fashion and interior design advice for both men and women. While this may not sound like a job, Bernstein typically gets paid anywhere from $5,000-$15,000 to advertise different brands, stores, and companies on her different media platforms that reach over 1.6 million people.
To become one of Forbes 30 Under 30, one must have contributed to a specific field in some way. There are 20 different categories, ranging from law and policy to consumer tech, with 30 winners from each, totaling 600 innovators entering Forbes 30 Under 30 Class. There’s only a 10% acceptance rate from the 6,000+ applications received each year. To put that in perspective, both Brown University and Dartmouth College have a 10% acceptance rate.
Bernstein didn’t originally see herself developing a career in the fashion industry. “I thought I was going to be an event planner and do something in the nightlife space. I loved fashion but never thought I would make a career out of it,” said Bernstein. However, within just six years following high school, Bernstein made a name for herself in the fashion industry.. In a field known for being difficult to break into, Bernstein succeeded with time, hard work, a positive attitude, and a tough exterior. Bernstein said that she has “always been extremely ambitious,” and commented, “[I] owe my success to a few key factors: being a fearless networker, remaining consistent with my content, and staying true to my aesthetic.”
