Hidden behind the back strip of stores on 3935 Merrick Road in Seaford lies Long Island’s newest sweet spot: Spoons Ice Cream and Cereal Bar. While you can buy intricately flavored ice cream with crazy toppings in many places, this new ice cream store has more to offer. Pinkberry started the cereal-on-yogurt trend years ago, which has since expanded to more stores and become commonplace. Spoons, however, puts a new twist on the cereal/ice cream combination. Rather than laying the delectable cereals on top, Spoons blends the cereal within the ice cream.
This location is difficult to find as it sits behind stores facing the block’s back parking lot. It is a hole-in-the-wall shop, a serving window with a menu board and two tables out front. Given Spoon’s obscure presence and location, customers who are not on top of the “ice cream scene” might drive past this mouthwatering location without even knowing it exists. However, this hidden treasure’s flavor combinations are not to be missed.
The appeal of Spoons stems from the customer’s ability to mix cereal with their vanilla ice cream and one other topping. The commonly known “Swirl In” allows customers to watch as their chosen cereal is blended inside the ice cream and then as their second topping is placed upon the swirled tip, adding another sweet sensation to each bite. The toppings are diverse, ranging from cannoli shells to Lucky Charm marshmallows and Cinnamon Toast Crunch bits. There are even options for the candy lovers, with chocolate bars such as Snickers or Twix. The endless possible combinations leave you wanting to come back to try a new blend.
Although there are so many different ice cream parlors on Long Island, Spoons stands out for its individuality and success. On any given night, there is a line spanning the length of the parking lot. Despite serving only cold delicacies, it really is the newest hot spot.
