With a staff of about 40 students, The Southerner publishes a print issue each month and updates its website each week. In 2011, the publication was named a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Silver Medalist.

Signed editorials represent the views of the writer and not necessarily those of the newspaper. Unsigned editorials are written by the Editors-in-Chief and represent the views of the staff. The Southerner encourages the submission of signed letters in response to editorials or on other issues of importance.
