It started in Outer Banks, North Carolina. The first Duck Donuts opened in Duck, NC in 2007. Duck Donuts is a franchise selling delicious donuts and more with over 200 locations across the country. Recently, Duck Donuts opened its first Nassau County location, and it’s only about 10 minutes away from Great Neck! Located at 2425 Jericho Turnpike, Garden City Park, Duck Donuts is a must!

All of the donuts are a vanilla cake donut base. Then, you can choose a coating, topping and drizzle. If the prospect of customizing your own is overwhelming, you can choose from the seasonal favorites or signature assortment. The donuts are made upon ordering, which can lead to a wait, especially in the middle of the day. In my opinion it’s worth the wait, especially because you can use this time to decide what to order. If you get to the front of the line and still haven’t decided, a staff member can offer a recommendation. 

Having visited a few times, I have tried a variety of flavors. My personal favorite is the Blueberry Pancake: blueberry icing with maple drizzle and powdered sugar. Honorable mentions include S’mores (chocolate icing, Graham cracker crumbs, marshmallow drizzle) and The Boardwalk (classic glaze, Oreo crumbles, powdered sugar, vanilla drizzle). A fan favorite is the Bacon in the Sun, which has maple icing, chopped bacon and salted caramel drizzle. If you’re taking them to go, I recommend warming the donuts up for eight to ten seconds in the microwave before eating. 

A singular donut is $2.25, which is reasonable considering the size (about the size of the palm of your hand). Half a dozen donuts are $11.95 and a dozen are $22.50. They also sell coffee and milkshakes.
