Mr. John Motchkavitz, Business and Tech Department Chairperson and Internship Program Overseer, has been a part of Great Neck since he was a student at Great Neck North. His mark on South High remains: notably, Motch was in the top five for a nationwide “Top Teacher” search, winning a trip to Alaska and laptops for our school. As Chairperson, he worked to expand the program from simply “building birdcages” to offering a wide array of classes so that there would be a class for anyone; for instance, he introduced the Set Design class over 20 years ago. He is also the school’s Pep Rally MC, Sports events MC, and teacher social committee leader. 

Though he may be retiring, he will remain enmeshed in South’s community. He plans to still help with Robotics, Set Design, and Theatre South, while finding more time to relax. Reflecting on his experience here, he said that he feels that he “Never left high school, in the best way possible.”
