The Class of 2026 grew up in distinct eras that feel like different lives stitched together. We were unknowingly the last class to go to Greenkill, a sleepaway camp in the wilderness—a field trip that now feels archived, like a final untouched file before everything changed. Quarantine hit middle school like a glitch in reality, a system breach that stole the code for normal school life: Zoom and Google Meet links, cameras pointed at ceiling fans, frozen screens, muted microphones, and profile pictures replacing the faces we used to see every day. Time didn’t just pass—it warped, stalled, and blurred. In response, our class collectively strived to make up for lost time in high school, becoming louder, more competitive, and perhaps more sentimental than we ever let on. We are a generation that learned how quickly things can change and somehow adapted in real time, like a shuffled soundtrack shifting with every change. Time didn’t measure our years—it moved in rhythm with our music. Above is a playlist curated from the moments that shaped our graduating class.

About the Contributors
Ivy Lin, Opinions Editor
Ivy Lin is a senior at Great Neck South High School and serves as the Opinions Editor for The Southerner. Now in her second year of journalism, she enjoys writing and exploring new angles—much like the crime mysteries she loves to read. Outside the newsroom, Ivy is involved in DECA, plays guitar, and is an avid Shark Tank fan. She also curates a growing CD collection and delights in sharing standout movie and music recommendations.
Zachary Dorf, Entertainment Editor
South High junior Zachary Dorf can’t wait to be the Entertainment Editor at The Southerner in his third year writing for the newspaper. If you drink matcha, watch old movies, nerd out over niche topics, or any combination of the three, you’ll easily get on his good side. When he’s not brainstorming headlines or poring over synonyms, find him backstage memorizing lines or structures of the bone, as he enjoys taking part in both Theatre South and the Science Olympiad (when he’s feeling more studious).
